Towson University Archives and Special Collections

If you've recently visited the fifth floor of the Library you may have noticed a temporary construction wall has been installed in the northwest corner of the open stacks area. The Towson Room and Towson University Archives and Special Collections facilities are being renovated and expanded to improve preservation conditions for historical records and artifacts and to provide new, dedicated user space for accessing and working with those materials. The renovation project started on Monday, March 9, 2009 and is projected to continue until mid-summer.

The Towson Room meeting space will be refurbished with new carpet, wall treatments, a new ceiling and lighting fixtures, new conference tables and chairs, and a built in projector and screen for lectures, presentations, and seminars. A second, cozier meeting space, also equipped with new conference furniture and presentation equipment, will sit adjacent to a reception area and the new main entrance. The closed stacks area will be expanded and fitted with a preservation quality environmental system and proper archival storage equipment. A dedicated user space will be created for hands-on work with special collections.
