Using and Borrowing Materials -
Information for Faculty
Circulation Services: 410-704-2456
Faculty loans for Towson University materials are due on two semester dates (February 5 and June 5). Due dates vary for other USM libraries. Please consult each library's policies.
Borrowing and Returning of Materials
Books from Cook Library must be checked out at the Circulation Desk located on the third floor of the Library. Faculty must present their valid TU ID at the time of checkout.
Books may be returned to the Circulation Desk on the third floor, placed in the book return box when the library is closed, or returned to any other USM library. All library users are encouraged to request receipts then they return library materials. Receipts are available from any of the USM libraries.
Materials needed longer than the regular loan period may be renewed, provided another user has not requested them. Materials may be renewed electronically (once) or presented at the Circulation Desk of any USM library (indefinitely). Electronic renewal is via the catalog: sign in to "My Account" , select "items borrowed/renewals" and renew each item individually. Cook Library does not handle telephone renewals.
The Library may recall borrowed items if they are needed by another user. When a recall is initiated, a notice giving the new due date is sent. The loan period may be shortened in these circumstances and you will be held responsible for any overdue charges incurred due to late returns.
After and item has been overdue for 48 days, it is billed for replacement. A non-refundable fee of $20.00
is included in the replacement cost. When materials that have been billed for replacement are returned, the
Circulation Billing Supervisor will review the account to determine if a credit for the returned material
will be issued. The review will be based on the following conditions:
· the material is returned in good re-usable condition
· the bill has not been forwarded to a collection agency
· the Library has not withdrawn or replaced the material
· the material is returned within a year from the due date
Note: Fine rates for other USM libraries vary. Please consult each library's policies.
