This encyclopedia captures the experiences and the roles women have played throughout world history, with over 650 biographies of influential women and over 600 topical articles covering topics such as geography and history, culture and society, organizations, movements, and gender studies.
Originally published in 1973 by McGraw Hill, this authoritative set represents the first complete revision in 25 years. This edition includes approximately 2,000 more entries than the first, with more women, multicultural and international coverage, bringing the total to approximately 7,000 biographies on notables from every part of the world and from all time periods. Includes thousands of photos, a consolidated index, and more. Each Supplement adds approximately 200 new biographies.
Culture and Country Resources
Gale Encyclopedia of Multicultural America contains 152 original essays (about 8,000-12,000 words each) on specific minority and ethnic groups in the U.S., with an emphasis on culture (religions, holidays, customs, language) in addition to information on historical background and settlement patterns. The Encyclopedia also covers ethnoreligious groups such as Jews, Chaldeans and Amish.
Focuses on cultures and countries around the world, specifically what is and is not shared culturally by the people who live in a particular country. Entries contain descriptive summaries of the country in question, including demographic, historical, cultural, economic, religious, and political information.
Central portal to the Library of Congress' vast resources, and to electronic resources chosen by the Library staff, including country studies, foreign law materials, digitized books and articles, cybercasts, and featured collections of international, cultural and historic importance.
