· Bartleby.com (Great Books Online) - Provides free access to important reference books and complete works of verse, fiction and non-fiction.
· Best Information on the Net for English Majors - Browse current topics in English literature, writing,language and folklore.
· Camelot Project
· Electronic Text Center - Established at the University of Virginia Library, this site provides thousands of online texts of English language resources.
· General Prologue to Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales - An Electronic Edition - Includes Middle English text, Modern English translation, images, recorded readings from the General Prologue, literary and historical background, and links to additional sources. Created by TU English Professor Edwin Duncan.
· Google Books - Provides previews of selected books and the entire text for public domain (out-of-copyright) books. Search by keyword(s) or browse selected subjects (e.g., Literary Collections, Literary Criticism).
· Hamletworks - Hamletworks.org is still a work in progress...but the Hamlet Works website already brings together an important body of information about Shakespeare's play that will be of interest to causual student
· Literary Criticism - The Internet Public Library Literary Criticism Collection contains critical and biographical websites about authors and their works arranged by author, title, nationality and literary period.
· Literary Resources on the Net - "...collection of links to sites on the Internet dealing especially with English and American literature..."
· Mind is a Metaphor - A "collection of eighteenth-century metaphors of the mind (intended to serve) as the basis for a scholarly study of the metaphors&(used) by the novelists, poets, dramatists, essayists, philosophers, belle-lettrists, preachers, and pamphleteers of the long eighteenth century."
· Online Catalog (Library of Congress) - Catalog to the Library of Congress' collection, containing millions of items dating to the colonial period.
· Online Medieval & Classical Library
· Outline of American Literature - Survey of American literature from pre-colonial days through the prose and poetry of the last 50 years.
· Pathfinder: Literary Criticism - A guide written by IPL staff intended to help you get started doing research on a particular topic, both online and at your local library.
· Shakespeare Quartos Archive - A digital collection of pre-1642 editions of William Shakespeare's plays. Includes an interactive interface for the detailed study of these geographically distant quartos, with full functionality for all thirty-two quarto copies of Hamlet held by participating institutions.
· Voice of the Shuttle
· Walt Whitman Archive - "An electronic research and teaching tool that sets out to make Whitman's vast work easily and conveniently accessible to scholars, students, and general readers." Includes complete digital copies of the six American editions of Leaves of Grass published in Whitman's lifetime, as well as links to Whitman manuscripts, notebooks, essays, letters, and journalistic articles.
