Gifts to the Library

Your gift to Cook Library can make a difference. As Towson University expands, offering new programs and adding doctoral degrees, TU students and faculty need broader and deeper library resources. This is difficult to provide when inflation for books and journals outstrips increases to the library's materials budget.

Monetary Gifts

A gift of $25 or more will purchase a book in any subject you recommend. A gift of $100 or more will purchase a year's subscription to a journal. A gift of $1,000 or more will give access to an electronic database for a year. A $10,000 endowment, named for the donor, honoree or topic it would support, will make an ongoing contribution with long term impact. Any of these gifts can be designated for a particular field of interest to the donor or can be given without specification to fill needs as selected by the library.

Donations of Library Materials

A gift of books or other materials suitable for Cook Library is another way to enhance the library's collection. Thoughtfully selected materials that are in good condition and that support the curriculum at Towson University can strengthen the collection. Gift bookplates may be placed in donated volumes at the request of the donor. Contact Brooke Wagner, Gifts Coordinator, at (410) 704-4116 if you wish to donate library materials.

All gifts of library materials become property of the library. The library staff will determine whether the gift will be retained, where it will be shelved or located, and how it will be cataloged or circulated. Materials not added to the collection may be sold.

Acknowledgments

The library will send you an acknowledgment letter and you will receive a "thank you" from the Towson University Foundation. The library is unable to provide donors of library materials with a list of titles donated. If you need such a list, please make it before you bring your gift to the library.

Appraisals

Federal laws do not permit the library to make appraisals. If you need a value placed on your gift, please have the appraisal done prior to making the donation.
