Selecting a Database

The first step is selecting the appropriate database for your research needs.

  • Some databases have very broad subject coverage, such as “Academic Search or “Lexis-Nexis”.

    • These general databases often index both popular and scholarly publications.

  • Some databases are very subject specific, such as “Art Abstracts” or “PsycINFO”.

    • Subject-specific databases tend to cover scholarly journals in a particular discipline.
