What is a browser?

A browser is the software that allows you to view web pages. The two most popular browsers are Internet Explorer and Netscape.

Right now you are using a browser in order to view this web page. The browser only controls the appearance of what you see on the web - the content of the web pages comes from the web sites you connect to. Each web page has a unique address, called a URL (Uniform Resource Locator).
