Evaluating Web Sources

  • You must evaluate everything you use for your research. However, if you plan to use information you found on the Internet, you will need to be even more vigilant in determining its reliability.

  • Traditional print publications are evaluated by the publisher and often reviewed by the author's peers, while Web sites can be created by almost anyone and posted without any verification.

  • In general, Web pages are less reliable than print publications or articles retrieved from an online database such as Academic Search.
