Research Guides:
Finding Primary Sources

Primary sources are “original records created at the time historical events occurred or well after events in the form of memoirs and oral histories.” (ALA/RUSA) They include actual records that have survived from the past, such as letters, photographs, diaries, or speeches. Primary sources may be an account by an eyewitness or the first recorder of an event, in written or other form.
