Books and other materials in the USMAI system and most academic libraries are cataloged according to the Library of Congress Classification System and are assigned Library of Congress Subject Headings. Library of Congress (LC) subject headings consist of a controlled vocabulary produced by the Library of Congress for consistency in organizing materials in libraries.
